Facility & Vehicle Detailer/ Job Description and Duties:
Job Overview:
The Facility & Vehicle Detailer is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and appearance of all fleet vehicles and facility areas. This position ensures buses and staff vehicles are cleaned, disinfected, and detailed to established standards, while also maintaining the wash bay, shop, and office areas. The Detailer works under general supervision and performs assigned tasks to support the daily operations of the Maintenance Department.
Vehicle Cleaning & Detailing
Clean and detail the interior and exterior of buses and staff vehicles to meet cleanliness and safety standards.
Interior cleaning includes disinfecting high-touch surfaces, cleaning windows, sweeping, mopping floors, and removing debris or gum.
Exterior cleaning includes washing vehicle bodies, wheels, windshields, and rear areas using power washing equipment and brushes.
Perform deep cleaning and full detailing on assigned buses as part of a rotating schedule.
Bus Wash Operations
Properly set up and operate the automatic bus wash system according to established procedures.
Ensure fabric brushes are soaked and equipment is functioning correctly prior to use.
Squeegee and detail windows, mirrors, and door glass after washing to ensure a streak-free finish.
Vehicle Inspection & Preparation
Inspect vehicles for cleanliness and completeness after cleaning; perform touch-ups as needed.
During winter months, ensure buses are properly secured and heaters are plugged in when applicable.
Properly park vehicles after cleaning, secure doors, and return keys as required.
Staff Vehicle Cleaning
Wash and clean assigned staff vehicles during each shift to meet facility standards.
Wash Bay & Facility Maintenance
Prepare the wash bay at the start of each shift with necessary cleaning supplies and equipment.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe wash bay throughout the shift.
Clean and store all equipment and supplies at the end of each shift.
Perform daily facility cleaning duties, including sweeping, mopping, trash removal, and spot cleaning in shop and office areas.
Additional Duties
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Maintenance, Closing Mechanic to support maintenance operations.
Cooperate with supervisors during random cleanliness inspections and correct deficiencies as needed.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness
Ability to perform physical labor for extended periods
Ability to follow procedures and work independently or as part of a team
Knowledge of safe handling of cleaning chemicals and equipment
Effective time-management and task-prioritization skills
Previous vehicle detailing or facility cleaning experience preferred
